Highlights of the converter include:

 HD-Connect MI Features

  • HDMI → HD/SD-SDI conversion
  • Works with HDV, AVCHD and DV formats
  • Eliminates render and playback issues associated with Long-GOP formats
  • HD/SD-SDI includes video + audio + time code
  • RS-422 deck control (compatible with Avid, Final Cut Pro and Premiere)
  • Optional live capture of “never-compressed” out of the camcorder, for highest quality / green screen applications
  • 1080i, 720p and 486i/576i output, as provided by the deck/camcorder
  • Excellent video / audio quality as HDMI output utilizes decoder / scaler / error correction in camcorder/deck
  • Very low-latency (approximately 1 video line or under 40 uS), which is imperceptible
  • Low-power (under 2 Watts) for portable applications
  • Affordable: $695USD MSRP

 Recent Developments

  • Video levels can now be clipped to legal limits or allowed to go full range (Sony products only)
  • HDMI cable lengths of up to 20 meters (66 feet) have been successfully tested with the MI box. Note: we recommend using a short HDMI cable and a longer HD/SD-SDI cable (coax) to connect the MI box, as the coax is about 1/10 the price of HDMI cable.
  • We are developing a battery powered option for studio and remote applications. Currently, we get 4 hours of operation out of a 4-cell AA-size battery pack (NiMH). Lithium-Ion cells should double these figures.
  • We have developed a technique to invoke cross conversion and down conversion out of the Sony Consumer HDV camcorders (HDR-HC3), even though these modes are not listed in the operating menu. These low-cost (around $1000USD) camcorders can act as excellent feeder decks for ingest of HDV/DV into an NLE system (and you get an extra camcorder for emergencies). See attached compatibility charts.
  • Note that the HD-Connect MI does not accept encrypted video (from commercial DVDs for example). So, JVC BR-HD50 customers will need a software update to their decks to turn off the HDCP encryption. This should be available from JVC in the latter part of January.
